In 2009, I introduced a groundbreaking material for crafting guitar plectrums, which I called PHD (Patrick Hufschmid Discovery). This material, a paper-based phenolic resin composite, was my pioneering choice for its exceptional qualities. As the original innovator in using this material for plectrums, I am pleased to reintroduce it.
Some builders have adopted catchy names for their versions of similar materials, sometimes comparing them to the strongest metals in the universe from Dragon Ball Z. However, it is important to understand the true nature of these materials. The presence of fibres or paper layers typically indicates a paper-based phenolic resin composite, such as Micarta, rather than a high-performance thermoplastic. High-performance thermoplastics are produced to strict specifications and do not contain such fibres or paper layers.
Various companies produce these materials under different trademark names. Despite differences in appearance and branding, they are essentially the same category of material: paper-based phenolic resin composites. This allows for a wide range of looks and finishes while retaining the same core characteristics. My work has always been based on extensive experimentation and research, and I believe the variety used here, the same one I was already using in 2009, remains the best possible option for crafting guitar plectrums.
Unlock the power of thicker handcrafted plectrums, meticulously created by me.
🎸 Struggling with hand discomfort during extended playing sessions?
🎸 Looking for greater precision and speed in your guitar playing?
🎸 Curious about the biomechanical logic behind these plectrums?
By using thicker plectrums, you can improve playing efficiency and strength while reducing effort. This approach minimises hand movement and increases hand strength, resulting in less cramping and tension.
This feature can be particularly beneficial for guitarists experiencing muscular issues such as osteoarthritis or tendinitis. However, all players can benefit from this biomechanical effect, improving precision, strength and speed.
Key Benefits
✔ Enhanced hand strength: reduced fatigue and discomfort.
✔ Effortless playing: less strain, more endurance.
✔ Precision and speed: improved control and articulation.
Made to order, please allow an estimated 3 weeks before shipping.
